Leadership Philosophy

Leadership Philosophy

When asked about my own leadership, I have to dig deep and think about who I am as a leader and as a person in general. I have come to the conclusion, that I am an empathetic, goal based, calm, motivated, and compassionate leader. Also, I thought about my values and what is most important to me. Personally, I pride myself on being respectful and understanding. All of these items contribute into my Philosophy which is how I see myself as a leader. It is centered around helping others by getting down to their level and motivating them from there.

I am marvelous at relating to people and using this epithetic skill when I am leading as well. I have a heart for people who need someone and can recognize what they need from me. Personally, I see and understand the importance of recognizing that other people “have lives”. Everyone is always on the move, by conveying to them that you understand and can work around that makes your life and their life much easier. Also, by doing this you show them that you care and want them to be a part of what you are doing. Whenever I am in a leadership role I let people know that I realize they are busy but if we work together, we can get everything done. Precise examples of this philosophy in action is my Sorority’s Grilled Cheese fundraiser and 12 hours of service with Circle K. With both Grilled Cheese and Circle K 12 hour, I planned and facilitated the events put on. The whole time I tried to be understanding to everyone I was working with. If you are compassionate and understanding to someone, most of the time they will do the same to you. Furthermore, when planning these events, I got ideas from everyone in my sorority or organization because people enjoy being heard and feeling as though they have contributed. Also, whether I was facilitating something or planning for the multitude of events, I made sure to stay calm and organized because followers will respect that and more people will want to help you towards your goal. Through my leadership I encompass the idea that you do not need to be a dictator type of leader, but rather if you are direct with what you want and an overall calm and kind person, people with listen to you and follow you to reach goals.

Along with that, I am someone who respects everyone and attempts to understand what they are going through. A compassionate, empathetic, and respectful leader is someone many people want to follow because those qualities people look for in leaders overall. A few leaders or companies that also personify empathy through their leadership are Michelle Obama, Mahatma Gandhi, and Quicken Loans. First, I added Quicken Loans on this list even though it may not be a person because of their understanding for the city of Detroit. This is a company that embraces the problems Detroit has and does everything in their power to help the city. Quicken Loans empathizes with the people of Detroit and is rebuilding the once great city. Next, Michelle Obama and Gandhi are the epitome of compassionate caring people, who are two of the worlds greatest leaders. Both of these magnificent people have shown empathy for groups of people and fought for what is right throughout the world. In summary, I focus myself on the idea of empathy and base everything that is me and my leadership around that one word. Alongside, I also am a leader who respects others and respect with empathy creates my leadership philosophy.
